It is believed that muffins originated in England during the 10th century. However, though they came from England, muffins are now more popular in the United States.
The English muffin has a round and flat leavened bread shape, and the American muffin looks more like a cupcake; its texture is slightly rougher and it is not as sweet as the English muffin.
There are two types of muffins – sweet and savoury. The sweet muffins, for example, include blueberry muffins, chocolate chip muffins, etc. The savoury ones include offerings such as bacon and spinach mayonnaise muffins, pizza muffins and many more. Lately, the savoury muffins have been increasingly popular among diners.
